A dynamic new force is set to supercharge Tunisia's vibrant tech scene as 216 Capital, a homegrown venture firm, teams up with Silicon Valley powerhouse Plug and Play to unveil the 216 Capital Venture Accelerator. This ambitious six-month program promises to propel up to 20 high-potential Tunisian startups toward international stardom, each armed with a €50,000 investment—totaling a €1 million commitment to fuel innovation and cross-border expansion.
Backed by Smart Capital and the ANAVA fund of funds, the accelerator targets early-stage ventures ready to scale amid Tunisia's evolving ecosystem. Participants will dive into intensive mentorship sessions led by global investors and industry coaches, honing their strategies for market entry, funding pitches, and operational excellence. Top performers could unlock even more capital through follow-on opportunities, bridging the gap between local ingenuity and worldwide networks.
Dhekra Khelifi, a partner at 216 Capital, hailed the launch as a pivotal step forward. "Teaming up with Plug and Play means we're handing local trailblazers the blueprint to refine their operations, secure vital funding, and break into global arenas," she said. The collaboration taps into Plug and Play's expansive web of corporate allies, expert advisors, and financiers, offering startups unprecedented exposure.
Echoing that enthusiasm, Yves Cabanac, Plug and Play's Managing Director for France, Benelux, and Africa, underscored the program's strategic edge. "We're channeling fresh momentum into Tunisia by spotlighting standout ventures, syncing them with international benchmarks, and unlocking new investment streams," Cabanac noted. This infusion arrives at a critical juncture, tackling persistent hurdles like market silos and scarce global funding that often sideline African innovators.
Building on Tunisia's forward-thinking 2018 Startup Act—which dangles tax breaks, streamlined regulations, and dedicated grants—the accelerator is more than just cash; it's a launchpad for positioning the North African nation as a nexus linking Africa's entrepreneurial pulse with Europe and the Middle East. By empowering these 20 trailblazers, the initiative not only bolsters job creation and economic resilience but also cements Tunisia's reputation as a breeding ground for boundary-pushing tech solutions. As applications roll in, the stage is set for a wave of Tunisian success stories to ripple across the globe.
