Nigeria Teams Up with UAE to Empower 7 Million Young People with Tech Skills and Worldwide Prospects

Written By: Flipbz.org

In a groundbreaking alliance aimed at supercharging Africa's digital future, Nigeria has joined forces with the United Arab Emirates to arm over 7 million young Nigerians with cutting-edge digital skills, entrepreneurial know-how, and access to international markets.

The partnership, centered on bolstering the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), involves key players from both nations. On the Nigerian side, Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), led by Director-General Dr. Inuwa Abdullahi, are driving the effort. Representing the UAE is the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa) and Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, His Excellency Omar Al Olama. This collaboration seeks to fuel innovation, create jobs, and integrate Nigerian talent into the global digital landscape, aligning with Nigeria's broader push for digital overhaul.

At its core, the initiative targets the massive skills gap in the country, where projections show 35-45% of jobs will demand digital expertise by 2030— including 70% foundational abilities and 23% intermediate non-ICT skills. By focusing on AI-powered education, business process outsourcing (BPO), startup nurturing, and remote work opportunities, the program aims to equip youth with the tools to thrive in a tech-driven world, attract foreign investment, and spotlight Nigeria's burgeoning startup scene.

A highlight of the deal is the upcoming GITEX-powered National Digital Innovation Showcase, set to run from September 1-4, 2025. This event will feature 300 top Nigerian startups, providing a platform to connect innovators with global investors and mentors. "Sheraa’s dedication to fostering talent and creating meaningful impact aligns well with our vision," Minister Olawande said. "Together, we can create pathways that enable young Nigerians to reach their full potential."

Ongoing discussions between the partners will explore deeper ties in AI education and remote work, paving the way for sustained youth employment and economic growth. This move not only addresses immediate challenges but also positions Nigeria as a rising force in the global tech arena, with the World Bank and IFC noting the continent's potential in their recent reports.
